Subject: Re: Kenwood TS-570 & TS-2000

I came across an interesting revelation for the Kenwood TS-570. There is a
simple software called EQCALC that lets you define the "U"or User (other
choices are OFF, Hb, FP, bb, and c) receiver equalization for both receive
audio frequency response and the transmit microphone frequency response. It
programs the rig's audio DSP. The factory default for the "U" setting is
the same as OFF (flat response) within the Menu settings. This software
does not affect the other settings within Menu #14 for transmit and #50 for
receive on the TS-570DG. The same audio quality exists on the New Kenwood
TS-2000 and there is software to adjust that audio too....

I was always concerned that I just couldn't get the audio tone quality right
for SSB reception and this software lets you customize the audio
equalization. The audio always seemed to be too muffled when selecting
"OFF" or "c" setting and too tinny on "Hb" setting. I felt the need for
more midrange audio.
Did you know about this feature?
If not, check it out.....

Here is the Japanese web site for the software (EQCALC) download.....

If you decide to try it, I suggest that you select HPF (high pass audio
filter) button, Cutoff Frequency at 350Hz, and Attenuation setting at 40 in
the software. Upload to the rig with the serial port and set Menu #50 to
"U"...... If you want to go back to factory settings - no problem - just
select one of the other choices in the Menu.
For transmit I was happy with the "c" setting in Menu #14 with my Kenwood
MC-60 mic. - But if you are using a Heil mic or something else you may want
to experiment with the transmit equalization too......
