I had set my fan to run fairly fast. Neighbor K6XX, who was the 
production engineer at Elecraft for both of their amps and a serious 
contester, advised me to take the default settings for the fan and let 
the amp take care of itself. It's been happy running that way for 3-4 
years. The only time the fan runs very loud is when I've been doing long 
WSJT modes on 6M, like meteor scatter or tropo. It will speed up when 
I've been contesting with frequent CQs and getting few answers.
