Mark, if you have an iPhone 14 or later (capable of Satellite "SOS" texting), check out https://www.offlinespotter.com/ It's an easy to use POTA, SOTA, and WWFF spotting app that utilizes the Satellite texting capability of the iPhone. As long as you have a clear view of the sky, the app will guide you in aiming your phone. Sites are pre-loaded, and you don't have to worry about any syntax or anything, it's all menu driven. I've used it a few times when "off-grid" and it works great!
Standard disclaimer: I have no interest in the app other than being a user of it.

Ken, KJ9B

Subject: [Elecraft] Effective ways to introduce amateur radio to newcomers?
I'll be hiking the Teton Crest Trail next week, doing POTA activations
along the way. As cell coverage will be non-existent, I will be
relying on amateur radio (and my KX2) to stay in touch with the
outside world. I expect that this will attract interest from other
backpackers, so I have my sales pitch ready. ;-)

>_ _>_ Of all the ideas, the one that appeals to me the most is Going
Forth into _>_ the world, publicly, where passersby can ask what's
going on, maybe tune a _>_ radio around and listen to a DX station, or
just have a donut and shoot the _>_ breeze with our friendly comrades.
I've done this many times at parks and _>_ campgrounds. Technical
demos, premeditated or not, tend to attract _>_ technically inclined
people who inevitably ask questions. _>_ _>_ I've had another idea
which is to cross-pollinate non-ham groups that _>_ nonetheless share
some of our values. Example: give a talk on ham radio at _>_ a
hiking/backpacking club meeting. _>_ _>_ I'd encourage everyone to
take whatever positive they gleaned from this _>_ discussion and
maybe, in the future, report back. _>_ _>_ 73, _>_ Wayne _>_ N6KR_
