An excellent lightweight KX2 container.
My KX2 with handles sits in a Sterilite ultra-seal 8.3 cup / 2.0 liter food container fromthe grocery store with a piece of 3/8 inch black foam pad sitting underneath the radio. The Sterilite cover fits tightly against the KX2 handles compressing the foam pad slightly as the 4 cover locks snap into place. I leave the KXPD2 paddles in place on the radio but surrounded with a small sturdy box inside the food container. I found this step to be unnecessary but do it anyway.
This particular plastic food container and cover are quite sturdy and has done the job for many years on the trail sitting at the bottom of my small radio backpack.

I have to agree with the APACHE cases from Harbor Freight. They are good quality, inexpensive, and come in many sizes. I have used one for my K2 POTA ops for several years with great success.

Just a thought, it sounds like Silly Putty. Silly Putty was
originally developed as wall paper cleaner

And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life
worth while, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
"I served in the United States Navy."

That's not actually true.? Silly Putty was originally developed in 1943
by a researcher at general Electric named James Wright who was trying to
make synthetic rubber.? It didn't work, though, and eventually became
the children's toy we all loved.
Silly Putty WAS very briefly marketed for cleaning wall paper, but it
didn't work for that either.
You may be thinking of Play-Doh, which indeed was originally developed
as a wallpaper cleaner sometime in the previous decade.
In any case, this gel is actually a gel and having had experience with
all three I can truthfully say that this gel doesn't act at all like
either Silly Putty or Play-Doh.? It's flexible, very gooey, and slightly
moist ... but doesn't seem to stick to anything except dust, including
your skin.
