They are also required to get rid of the wasted speech energy below 500 
Hz with almost any mic. The low-frequency boost of cardioids only makes 
it worse. My recommended settings are for the mics built into headsets, 
many of which are omni-directional, and thus no bass boost from 
close-talking.
