[Elecraft] Elecraft 80M SSB Non-Net Announcement

Since this Sunday is Superbowl Sunday, and kickoff is at 630pm ET, the
game will not be over by our usual 80M Elecraft SSB Net start time.

I propose, therefore, that we skip this week and pick up again next
Sunday.

If anyone feels strongly enough to carry on, they are perfectly welcome
to either host the net at the regular time, or to start a rag-chew with
the net regulars and anyone else that strays onto the frequency. You
are also welcome to report on the net activities if one takes place.

Please remember the following:

The group that meets on 3803 kHz before us has been wrapping up
operations promptly at or before 9PM ET. There is also another group
that normally comes on at 10PM ET, so we need to make sure to wrap up
operations by 10PM ET. If any stations wish to continue past that time,
please QSY to a clear frequency.

This is particularly important, since I ended up having a QSO with a new
station on 3803 after the conclusion of last week's net, and remembered
at about 958pm ET that I needed to QRT on the frequency to make room for
the upcoming 10pm ET net. Unfortunately, I forgot to tell the station I
was talking to, and they started calling CQ after completing our QSO.
The 10pm net folks were rather curt with that station and told them to
get off their net frequency, which started a turf battle. On top of
that, another station came on frequency and 1 kHz below them, and
starting cursing and screaming at everyone. Sigh. Not a good look for
someone that had just gotten their General license and was making their
first (or close to first) SSB contact. I tried looking them up on QRZ,
but they hadn't updated their page yet, so there was no email address I
could use to contact them to apologize for the awful behavior of the
crowd that came on after us.

Finally, if you are a US General class licensee, please ensure that your
dial is accurately calibrated and that your transmitter/amplifier
combination is clean and free of splatter, since we will be operating
LSB within 3 kHz of the lower band edge of the 80M US General class
band.

Hope to see you a week from Sunday evening on the net.

73,

-- Dave, N8SBE
