Pete, I ran 1.5kw on 160 with an EFHW and did not have any issues. I ran feedline underground and had great results. I would suspect some rf feedback. Which can cause anomalies.

The fault table should show what threshold is being exceeded. Recent 160 meter soft fault detail would be of interest.
