[Elecraft] input to P3 keyboard port

Hi folks,
 
I am trying to emulate a keyboard input to the keyboard port on the P3 to
execute the macros in the P3 and K3.
 
  I have a genovation cp48 that works great .  The cp48 sends a single
number/letter to the keyboard port which execute one of the P3/K3 macros.
 
 I would like to be able to execute the macros via a vb6 or better yet a
vb.net program.  I tried to send a single character via a comm port but what
ever a keyboard sends I can not duplicate it via programing.
 
Any help would be appreciated.
