Wow!  I supported myself in college working at the local [only] TV 
station, KSBY, in the late 50's/early 60's.  The CE worked my shifts 
around classes, and I often did the 1630-signoff.  Jack Parr had what 
would become Johnny's slot then with that classic RCA on his desk.  I 
thought it was a 44-BX, we had one on our control desk.  I was in remote 
AK and SE Asia for nearly all of the 60's.  I vaguely remember Carson 
having the Shure after I got back home in late '68, it was smaller, the 
RCA was big, sort of blocky, and heavy.  $50K ... impressive!
