Good Evening,

    The dry season is sneaking in, twenty minutes more a week. What were 
open expanses just a few weeks ago are now filled with tall ferns.  They 
are not done growing but they do change the environment.  Underneath 
their new canopy lies a moister, cooler micro-climate.  The mountain 
beaver alternate between lying under the ferns and lying on top one of 
their piles of dirt.  They eat a lot of bracken ferns, it is their major 
source of water.  However, they do gnaw down the occasional alder 
sapling and my poor rhododendrons :(

    The sun is active.  More spots than last week with higher flux 
activity.  Both twenty and forty meters have many signals, from CW, 
through four types of digital tones, to voice modes.  There was a 
variety of noise too, but it was not strong.  Summer is coming, Field 
Day is next week so I will not be running either net.  You may hear me 
calling CQ or running a search and pounce mission.  I will try 10 and 15 
meters, you never can tell when they'll be open.  Six meters is also due 
for an opening so I will try it too.
