[Elecraft] Fwd: KX3 lithium ion polymer internal battery

I would put an LiPoly inside one of my radios right after it has been
reliably determined that hell has frozen over.  I used one for my KX1,
external on a pigtail.  I got it at the RC store, about the size of a
small matchbox.  I was in the Spartan Sprint one summer evening on the
deck, and it burst into flames while I was sending.  Yanked the pigtail
loose and tossed it down onto a gravel driveway where it fizzed and
popped with flames for about 5 minutes.  I have a friend whose LiPoly in
his RC airplane did the same thing.  Sadly, all he could do is watch the
airplane go into a tight spin and "make uncontrolled contact with the
ground." [1]

LiFePO4 batteries are very stable.  LiPoly ... not so much.

[1] A phrase often used in USAF A/C accident reports.  See also NASA --
"anomaly" which can be anything from a burned out light bulb to the
rocket landing pointy end down somewhere in the desert
