Yeah, that will happen.
In CW mode, the rig "lines up" the VFO frequency and your sidetone.
In USB mode, the rig uses the VFO frequency as the "edge" of the sideband,
and if you hear or send at your sidetone, you'll have to add that to the
VFO frequency to get the actual frequency of the CW signal. If you tune the
other station to match your sidetone and then call her, you *should* still
end up coming back on the same frequency -- it just won't be what's on your
screen.
If you want to make the math easier, you could set your sidetone to 500 Hz.
You might also try CW mode with the filter wide open, but it still tops out
at 2800 Hz instead of 4000 Hz, so it might not be wide enough for your
taste.
