"I never took a drafting class nor anything like it in high school, yet its
absence never hurt me professionally. Making a straight line is not a skill
required of a lawyer."
This cries out for several clever and potentially offensive responses, but it's a new day and I'm not going to post them.
Besides, the poster may be a nice guy, making them unfair.
Most everyone will know them anyway, so I'll just say
73,

Here's the info on the K2
I built it in 2007, Serial No 61XX. It is the 15 w version and includes
the following:
- KSB2 SSB Adapter
<https://elecraftcom.myshopify.com/products/ksb2-ssb-option>
- KNB2 High Performance Noise Blanker
<https://elecraftcom.myshopify.com/products/knb2_noise-blanker>
- K160M 160M and 2nd RX Port
<https://elecraftcom.myshopify.com/products/k160rx_160m-option>
- KIO2 RS-232 Interface and Aux I/0
<https://elecraft.com/products/ki02-rs-232-serial-interface>
- KAT2 Automatic Antenna Tuner
<https://elecraftcom.myshopify.com/products/kat2_20w-internal-atu>
- KBT2 Battery
<https://elecraftcom.myshopify.com/products/kbt2_internal-battery-kit>
I have used it extensively for several years, but it is in good condition.
The K2's battery is a SLA unit and my battery became exhausted several
years ago so it is not included. A new battery can be purchased from
Elecraft or other sources and installed. I don't recommend replacing it as
a LiFePO is a much better choice today.
The K2 is wired for an Icom microphone.
I purchased a KX3 about 3 yrs ago and since then the K2 has not seen much
use.
I'm asking $850 for the package including all manuals, documentation &
tools.

To clarify, my Dad was not a ham. But he did teach me and the rest of the
scouts the code. He was my first scoutmaster. When I joined the Navy at
age 19, he got interested and got his novice ticket as a surprise. I was
at K6NCG, going to ET'A' school on Treasure Island. He called me on the
phone, which was a big deal long distance from Indiana to California in
1962. We met on the 40M Novice band and I was his first QSO. He refused
to work anyone else until he worked me. When he died in 1999, I found the
QSL I had sent him from K6NCG, hanging on his bedroom wall. He never got
his general.
As I said before, memories are priceless.

I am looking for a tuning knob for a K2 SN 5630
If I recall there were two different sizes of shafts, this would be the second (maybe current) size.
This is SN

I have my headset with mike plugged into the rear PHONES and MIC, the
headphones plugged into the front PHONES jack, and my boom mike
connected to the MIC connector.? Plus my external speakers plugged into
the rear SPKRS jack.??? The manual explains how to do this so all works
as expected.??? See page 22, 55, and 64 of the manual.

Frank,
Do you have the new encoder?? I don't know which SN they were started.?
That is the key to which knob you need.? If the knob is off, lift the
fiber washers and check to see if there is a green tab in the hole to
the right of the encoder shaft.? If the hole is empty, you have the new
encoder.
Order the new knob from Elecraft - they no longer have the older knob.
With the new knob, you need 3 fiber washers stacked.

I also need to figure out which K2 need those small 3/8?x3/8? rubber spacers in-between the PC boards without taking the front panel off.

I guess I missed out. Never had a formal course. No drafting in high school, and no drafting during undergraduate and graduate EE at Rice in the 60s. A straight edge and logic element templates in various sizes, were all the drafting skills needed. Board layout and a few other things were picked up as exercises for the the student.

Does your automatic antenna switch use the Unified Microsystems BCD-10 or
BCD-14 band decoders, or is your design similar to the 4O3A Antenna Genius?
These products all use opto-Isolators on the four Band Data lines in the
AUX cable. Wiring this type of decoder in parallel with the
K3/KAT500/KPA500 AUX cable via a 15-pin Y-cable or similar *will usually
cause automatic band changes on the KPA500 to stop working*, until you
disconnect the antenna switch's band decoder, or send some RF so that the
KPA500 frequency counter takes over. Not cool.
Opto-isolators draw too much current from the K3 ACC pins, leaving too
little voltage for the KPA500's band decoder to track properly. This is no
problem for the KPA1500, only the KPA500, with or without the KAT500.
The solution I discovered was to connect four 4.7K pull-up resistors to 12V
to each band data pin in the K3 ACC cable, assuming the band decoder in the
antenna switch can handle 12V instead of 5V (most can). The KAT500 and
KPA500 will have no problem with 12V on the band data lines.
The Y-BOX v3.0 (not pictured on my website because I have not had time to
update it) includes these four pull-up resistors. They can conveniently be
wired internally to the band data pins, and band switching should work
again when all the devices are connected in parallel to the K3 ACC via the
Y-BOX. This assumes your KPA500 "RADIO" menu is set to "K3" or to "BCD" so
it tracks properly when the automatic antenna switch is disconnected from
the ACC/AUX cables.
FYI, you can still tap the BAND buttons on the KPA500 to change bands on
the K3, because that uses the AUXBUS line (ACC Pin 2), not the BAND DATA
lines. Many folks may have never discovered this cool feature of the
KPA500 and KPA1500.

Bought it, didn?t need it.
$110 shipped CONUS or trade for a new Fluke 107 with matching case.

Indeed. There is nothing so sublime as the moment of clarity when the last
pieces of a jigsaw puzzle align, and the vision in your mind's eye
crystalizes into reality.
Thanks for sharing your visions with us :-)

But writing legibly is, and that was a VERY important contribution of my
technical drawing classes. My script has become pretty flaky with age,
but my printing is still pretty legible.

I have been using a Kenwood MC-43S microphone for my K2 and the PTT button
broke. Since the mic is still in really good condition I contacted Kenwood
about a replacement PTT button and they said that I have to replace the
entire microphone. So I was just asking the Elecraft community if anyone
has a broken MC-43S mic for parts?

This turned out to be a popular subject line. Here goes...
I was too busy with AP classes to take drafting in high school. But I had to take it when I went off to the College of Engineering to be an Electrical Engineer. And I am glad I did take it. Of course, now it is all CAD systems?

"FYI, you can still tap the BAND buttons on the KPA500 to change bands on the K3, because that uses the AUXBUS line (ACC Pin 2), not the BAND DATA lines. Many folks may have never discovered this cool feature of the KPA500 and KPA1500."
I had to write code to put the KPA500 back on the correct band if one of these band buttons was accidentally pressed. I wish there was a way to disable them completely. One person's cool feature is another's PITA.

That also controls the KAT500 when connected.
