Richard;
A couple of suggestions:
1) Look for a key labelled “fn” on the keyboard. Pressing that while simultaneously pressing a Function key should give you what you want.
2) Look for an HP application or control that will allow you to turn on and off the functions, or even change them to do something else.
These kind of keyboards are popular. Logitech makes many, with their own software that allows you to set keys to do various functions.
In your case, finding that HP setup software should help you to reconfigure the system to behave the way you wish.
