The positive part of a power shutoff is the elimination of nearby RFI. Run from battery and you can hear the world.
Unfortunately, some people have lost nearly everything. A good friend of ours lost his house in the Tubbs Fire (Santa Rosa), has moved into gtheir newly rebuilt house, and had to evacuate last week. This time, they had enough warning and a pre-organized list.
He wrote an amazing graphic memoir about it. If you’d like to get a feel for how that impacted people, I highly recommend “A Fire Story” by Brian Fies.

Our local public radio station produced a video with the first part of the story and narration by Brian.
