Bill,
It's more than just software control of the hardware. For instance, it allows for a really tight integration of spotting software, logging, contest software. All of this limited or biased toward how you operate or what you are primarily after.
I personally use manual and software as a function of convenience at that moment. But, I have no problem clicking on a spot and having everything go there and waiting for me, to include setting up logging. You might just view this as just another tool in the kit to maximize your operating.
