As a TS-590 owner it's interesting that KY command as implemented by Elecraft does not conform to the Kenwood definition.  The Elecraft implementation is much better since it allows KY strings to be less than the full length required by Kenwood.   The difference is huge because it means the application can use string substitution where the substitution is not a constant length (as in callsign or serial number).
