[Elecraft] Odd problem

Hi Steve,
It could be some corrosion on the pins connecting the RF board to the front panel.
I had K3 s/n 3505 and it still had the tin pins not the gold ones. When I sent it in for updates before selling it to my brother-in-law they replaced the pins. I had never had any trouble with it. It seems it is standard procedure when an early K3 arrives for updates the tin pins are replaced with gold pins.
You can get the gold pins from Elecraft and replace them yourself.
Sometimes, just removing the front panel and replacing it wipes the pins enough to eliminate erratic problems.
One of the Elecraft techs told me that production with the gold pins started in the s/n range 4000 to 4100. I can't confirm that, but I would take the tech's word for it.
Don, W3FPR may be able to verify some of this.

Subject: [Elecraft] Odd problem
I have K3 s/n 3400 plus which I’ve owned since. I have come across an odd problem. Occasionally when tuning across any band, the display suddenly jumps from 14023 to a frequency in the 80-100 MHz area. The only way to fix it is to turn the radio off and then back on. Of course, it is an intermittent condition. Doesn’t happen all the time. Any ideas?
