have used a physical teletype machine with an ST-6....

I wouldn't bother with PTT.  Sure, it seems right, but unless you're 
trying to run AMTOR (which has an extremely short TX time), I'd just run 
VOX.  It works fine.

The audio signal from the soundcard, generated by the program is the PTT.
