Larry,
I don't know what "configurations" you may need, but for the most part,
once set up there is little need to go into the menu and make changes.
Several menu settings are per mode and others are per band. All those
are remembered internally and there is no need for a computer to change
them - just operate.
If you are doing 'serious operating' while portable, such as contesting,
then in all likelihood you would have a computer running in conjunction
with the radio.
