Is MENU:MIC SEL set to rP.H/FP.H or rP.L/FP.L?

For a dynamic mic like the PR-10, you will want to select
the High gain (xP.H) settings. If you are connecting to
the front panel, you can also tap the "7" key to turn on
an *additional* gain stage if necessary.

See page 55 of the K3S Owner's Manual.

Heil is not telling you the truth or their spec sheets are not
accurate. The specification sheets (on their web site) show the
output level specifications for both the PR-10 and HM-12 at -55 dB.
The microphones show similar bandwidth (80 - 14 KHz) with the HM-12
having a peak at 2 KHz and the PR-10 peak at 5 KHz).

My XYL, W1JX, with a softer voice, needs to run the mic gain to the maximum setting (60) to achieve the same output. Other Heil mics such as the HM-12 only require a mic gain setting of 25 for both of us to achieve sufficient output.. I contacted Heil and was told that the PR-10 is much wider in audio bandwidth and therefore requires a higher mic gain settings; they further advised that my experience was normal. While I understand this, I’m just not comfortable running the mic gain setting at max to achieve normal output when my XYL is using the K3S. Am I missing something here? Any thoughts and/or advice would be appreciated.
