[Elecraft] Why the KX2 and KX3 are not in the "QRP radios" category at eHam.net

Hi all,

Back when the KX3 first came out, customers doing the initial product reviews created two different categories for it: one under "QRP radios," and the other under "Transceivers: HF...."

We contacted eHam and argued, successfully, that the KX3 belonged under "Transceivers: HF...." Our reasoning was that when the KX3 was paired with a KXPA100, they formed a 100-W transceiver. The two are 100% integrated, with all control of the amp and its 100-W ATU originating from the rig. In addition, the KX3 is a 10-watt radio (now 15 watts, on most bands), which puts it outside the traditional QRP-radio definition of 5 watts. (I think of it as "medium power," FWIW.)

Since the KX2 is also a 10 watt radio that can become a 100 watt radio with the addition of the KXPA100, the same logic applies. So you'll find both rigs in the normal HF transceivers category.

There are some reviews already, posted by a few of our field testers who have had over two months of experience with the rig. Most are also well-known SOTA and ultralight backpacking operators. We were fortunate that they were willing to give the new rig a serious shake-down.
