Call them what you will, connecting a bunch of station components to a common DC power return has to be done very carefully. I've found that often the easiest solution is isolated power sources.  Some accessories seem to be designed with the assumption of ground isolation using a dedicated wall wart. 

But I'm not going to argue about it.
