Jer,

AFAIK, the only way HRD/DM780 sends CW is in DATA A mode and sends audio
tones to the transceiver.
That will not produce CW sidetone.

There are a few other applications - K3 Utility Terminal window for
instance, that send CW by sending KY commands to the K3S.  In that case, you
will be in CW mode and you should be able to hear the sidetone if you turn
up the monitor.
