Kevin, I am doing something like this. I use a KX3 with an external
transverter for 144 MHz. I have a 3dB splitter on the IF out of the
transverter (14MHz) and send half the signal to the KX3 and half to an
SDRPlay RSP running HDSDR. It can display in to 8MHz bandwidth, though I
only need a view of about 500 kHz normally to monitor the weak signal
portion of the band. The HDSDR software can be configured to control the KX3
via CAT by point and click and the KX3 can control the tuning of the HDSDR
whichever you require. SDRPlay works pretty well for this.
I have used the SDRPlay directly on 144 MHz rather than on the IF from the
transverter, but it does require a band pass filter ahead of it if you have
strong out of band signals, it doesn't have great RF preselection unlike the
Funcube Pro+ which has a SAW filter on 2m.
