[Elecraft] K3S vs. K3

All you hear is a high freq noise and it is there at any setting, but by
turning the AF knob fully CCW, it eliminates any noise generated by
"upstream" circuits.

I'm confused. How is it possible to hear anything with the audio gain knobby
fully CCW, or as I like to put it, "off" ? Is the control not going full
stop electrically?
