[Elecraft] Headphone Jack Problem with K1

George,
To remove the old headphone jack, you can de-solder it if you have good
de-soldering tools. If not, crush the body of the old jack (pliers will
work) sufficiently so you can remove the old pins one at a time. Do
whatever you need to do to preserve the thru-plated solder holes (do
*not* drill out the holes.
Unfortunately, there is only one supplier of that jack, and despite past
efforts from Elecraft to attempt to persuade the manufacturer to beef up
the jack, no positive results have occurred.
It is not really *that* weak. Some have worked for years, yet a small
percentage will fail. I know that is not a help if you are in that
small percentage category.
