Mark,
      Only you can determine what is correct. You need to use a CW tone 
that "feels" best to you. After that, knock off all the frequencies 
above and below your desired CW tone. What you are going to do is 
essentially filter out more noise and distractions that your receive 
filters allow through.  The problem with more specific recommendations 
are that I hear audio differently than you, therefore you need to set it 
up for yourself and your ears. That's part of the fun of having a radio 
where you can adjust everything, finding what works best for you.
