I did something similar. I soldered a 
two-Schottky-diodes-in-one-package-with-common-cathode device, salvaged 
from a switching PSU, on a 6.3 mm jack, glued it to the base plate of my 
sqeeze-paddle and I just have to plug in my straight key and can 
instantly use both.
