Well said, Doug.

Just for curiosity reasons: would you need a type certification if you 
imported the KX3 (or any other radio) as a kit? Do the authorities make 
any difference on that? So maybe that would be a chance to 
circumnavigate that cliff if you say you built the radio by yourself...
