Hi all... update for everyone.
Elecraft support were great. Many thanks to Lisa for sending out the
replacements PDQ....on mine it definitely was the case no glue on
underside of either KX3... #1082 and #2334. The sockets are surface
mount and there are 4 pads the note said work on three only but all 4
had been soldered. I soldered all 4 on the replacements too. I had a
time issue so could not return the unit to Elecraft and I am used to
working on surface mount so this was not a problem for me. I would not
advise this unless you really know what you are doing and can handle
soldering surface mount. Sending your KX3 to Elecraft will be a much
better way to get this done if you need to.
The earlier #1082 was the worst and the metal was very tarnished.
Probably due to the extensive use in sea side locations.
I used super glue cell/ cyano acrylate to glue down the new sockets in
place. I did consider using a pigtail and anderson power poles... in
future rig enhancements I would suggest Elecraft perhaps consider it?...
might add a few cents to the price but given the issues you have when
power is no good then I would think it is worth the extra.
I will now have both KX3 operational in C5 from 27th ...
