Hi Rick,

Owners of pre-SN 4060 K2s can obtain the firmware upgrade for free (a
$50 savings) by purchasing the K60XV option and indicating that you need the
latest firmware. You would then need to either drill the necessary (BNC
connector) mounting holes in your K2's rear I/O panel heatsink, or purchase
a replacement panel from Elecraft, for $20. (The K60XV kit even includes a
pair of replacement K2 PA thermal pads.)

If you get the KSB2 option, you might want to consider getting the
Rework Eliminator(TM) K2 Internal Mic Adaptor kit, which
more-than-dramatically simplifies the task of reconfiguring the front panel
mic connector, to support any of about 65 8-pin Foster amateur radio
microphones.

In addition, you might also consider getting the Rework Eliminator(TM)
K2 Option Bypass Headers kit, which will enable you to use your K2 without
the KSB2 or K60XV options installed (after you've modified it to accept
these options).

Feel free to email me off list if you have questions. Or visit
http://www.unpcbs.com/#rework_eliminator_TM_products for full details.

P.S. Both K2 Rework Eliminator(TM) kits are approaching end-of-life: the
internal mic adaptor possibly before year's end; the option bypass headers
probably within a year.
