Phil,

The only reason to use matched filters is diversity mode reception. For 
split operation, you want to have enough filtering to work your way 
through the pileup to select your TX frequency.  For many ops, that 
means using a wider filter to find that proper TX slot, while others 
prefer a more narrow filter.
