It's designed for just that sort of use when hooked up as shown in Figure 4
(pg 11) of the KAT500 manual. You can download the manual from Elecraft.com.

The internal memories will store the L/C settings for best SWR across the
Ham bands and recall those settings in an instant when it "sniffs" some RF
from the rig on a new frequency.

Hello, I am considering the purchase of the KAT500 Tuner. I am driving a
restored Heathkit SB 200 with my K3. Currently have a manual tuner.   Are
there any concerns or comments with replacing the manual tuner with the
KAT500?
