COM1 sounds like an unlikely port. Can you use the Windows Device Manager
to see if you have the expected device for COM1?
I'll guess you need a device driver for a USB to Serial Adapter, but I don't
know what you mean by "cord".

Subject: [Elecraft] New K3 Utility problem
Hi All
K3 utility was working fine until I had a lightning strike. Had to replace
the modem to get back on line. I got the PC-the notebook-the-nook and
printer going but the utility won't connect. I was using com3 before the new
modem for utility but now the pc only shows having com1? Utility tries to
connect showing different baud rates and when I hit close port it shows
closed port. I've downloaded the latest utility-using the newer elecraft
cord. The device manager only shows COM1-plugged in utility-still just COM1.
Should I try a Parameter Initialization? A new cord? New pc(hope not) K3
Back to Elecraft?
Where to start looking?
Tnx for any replys
