[Elecraft] On the horns of a dilemma - upgrade K3 to 100w or buy KXPA100+ATU?

I chose the K3/10 and did not add the 100w amp. I had enough
accessories to push the cost near to $3K and needed to keep it from
going higher. The option was to buy the 100w module and install it
later or buy an external 100w amp (the KXPA100 was not available at
that time). I bought an amplifier kit (300w) and a separate 150w 6m
amp. I already had antenna tuners so the ATU was eliminated from my
list (to keep down the cost).
With what I have invested in the two amps it probably equals the cost
of the KXPA100 (so I probably would have chosen it instead).
Like you, I have a KX3, and it is the choice for mobile or portable
use. I have recently built a 100w HF amp which could be used with
either radio (I will be selling it, instead). I can see acquiring a
KXPA100 (without ATU) as a strong possibility. To my thinking having
the versatility of use with either radio would sway me in the
direction of the KXPA100. I do get that installing the 100w amp
internal to the K3 would be less expensive.
I guess it is up to how you see the best choice that suits your use and wallet.
