[Elecraft] K3 [and Pigknob]

Several asked me to post my experiences with my Pigknob,

I've had a chance to play with it some and it's finally doing what I
bought it for. I've had my K3 quite awhile now [S/N 642], and I've
never gotten the Hz/turn settings for the Big Knob where I was
comfortable with them. At first I was doing it backwards, Don explained
it to me and it got better. However, the RIT follows the same settings
and I never remember to tap the FINE switch [to 10Hz rate] when I start
CQ'ing in a contest. At the 1Hz rate, the RIT takes lots of turns to
move very far.

Now, I leave the Big Knob on the 10Hz step and use the Pigknob for fine
tuning, the RIT knob is at a perfect rate, and I can QSY quickly with
the K3 knob. Additionally, the Pigknob is down on the desk which is a
lot easier on my arm and shoulder in a longer contest.

I still haven't figured out what I want the buttons to do, but I didn't
buy it for the buttons anyway. :-) And my station is sort of
right-handed out of physical necessity, I'm left-handed, and I've got
the PK on the left side of the laptop with the mouse now. Very comfortable.

It works fine with N1MM which doesn't seem to know that it's in the CAT
circuit. It is additional wiring behind my equipment shelf, begging the
question, "Why is it called 'wireless'," but that's inevitable.

As usual, no connection with Pignology, and YMMV.
