[Elecraft] KX3 IQ using NaP3

Greetings All

I am trying to set up my KX3 to produce a band scope/waterfall display
using NaP3 (v2.2.4.3).

My system includes a laptop running Win 7 Home Premium with a Intel
Core i3 CPU at 1.33 GHz with 4.00 (3.68usable) GB of memory and a 64-bit
OS. The modem I use is a USB E-Mu 0204 with the ASIO drivers supplied
with the E-Mu 0204. The ASIO drivers appear to work better than the MME
drivers.

I have 3 questions--

1. Do I need to set up frequency or global offsets.?
I cannot find any reference in the KX3 manual or Fred's wonderful
little book. My experience is that NaP3 appears to ignore offset values
for the KX3.

2. Do I need to worry about the balance between the I and Q channels.
My under standing is NaP3 does that, using WBIR. Furthmore, when I
play with the input levels on the E-Mu 2040, the display reacts, and
then returns to where it was.

3. How does WBIR work?
I am not convinced that I understand how to set up WBIR, and whether
or not it is actually working for me. My displays is full of images and
other noise, and the strong stations that I know are there are not visible.

A couple of observations--
I use commercial AM radio stations (730, 980 and 1040 KHz) to do the
training, but I have problems ridding the display of images. Also, I
cannot see the AM stations on the band scope (perhaps I can on the
waterfall, but I suspect it is mostly my imagination). But, when I click
on the frequency, it centres and I can see the station, but not other
stations. This is often true on SSB, as well.

My real success occurred when I left my station on while I went for
lunch and did not get back to it for a couple or so hours. Most of the
images were gone, even when I switched to 80M SSB. Also stations started
appear on both the scope and waterfall. I have not been able to repeat
this success. So, it does not appear that NaP3 had not saved WBIR
adaption. When I started up my system the following day, I was back to
my issues.

I am looking for suggestions as to how to properly setup this system. I
know it is possible, since I did it once.

Best of the Seasons to all
