[Elecraft] What KX3 NR settings do you use? (Input to single-knob NR control method)

Hi all,

As you may know, the KX3's NR (noise reduction) can only be adjusted in the RX NR menu entry at present. There are three parameters (beta/B, decay/D, mix/M), and these are stored separately for CW and voice modes.

We will soon be adding single-knob control of noise reduction. That is, when you turn on NR, you'll be able to rotate the knob directly above the NR switch (AF/RF-SQL) to select from a number of "canned" NR settings. The single-knob selections will remain separate for CW and voice modes.

Note that once we add single-knob control, you could still elect to do the adjustments in the menu instead. But if you use the single-knob method, it will "capture" all three parameters.

To provide the most useful set of combinations of beta/decay/mix, we'd like to find out what settings you're already using. If you'd like to help us with this, please send me your favored beta/decay/mix combinations for both SSB and CW modes. We'll try all of them, categorizing them based on similarity and overall "aggressiveness" of noise reduction. Then we'll choose 10 or so representative combinations for CW, and another set for voice modes, for use with the single-knob adjustment method.

Feel free to post your NR settings to the list if you'd like to share them with others. This will help us build consensus on the best combinations.

Two suggestions:

1. If possible, quantize the numbers to the nearest 5 or 10, since the parameter range is large (0-250) and the gradation is actually finer than necessary, especially for the "mix" number.

2. Please include a description of each combination that you use, e.g. "best for high noise", "minimal weak-signal degradation", etc.

Wayne
