See "K3 VFO Noise Mod, Rev C" in the K3 App Notes:

Note: "This mod also requires new K3 f/w, mcu 3.25 or later."

I don't know if your K3 predates the mod which was implemented in
production "About 09/01/09 (RF board Rev H3) and later."
