Yes Bill, this figure is quite realistic.
I've recently built two K3/10 with internal 144 modules, the first one took about 8 hours, or so, too.
The second one took about 5 hours.
Building my first K3/100 in 2009 really helped to learn the tricks.
Nice kits, easy to build.
Waiting for 432 MHz transverter kit to arrive.

Subject: [Elecraft] [K3] 8-hour Build
Like so many said, it takes about 8 hours to do a proper K3 build. I started mine at around 9am and finished the final tests at around 5pm, with a few small breaks during that period.
I promised my wife that the kitchen counter would be clear by the time she got home from work, and just barely made it!
I saved a little time by not organizing all the hardware. I built my KX3 recently and had enough confidence in both my recognition of the differing sizes of screws, and Elecraft's parts packing to just work from the packages. And it was perfect!
Of course, the only options were the ATU and power amp., so that cut some of the potential time.
Very nice rig...but I was already spoiled with the KX3 :-)
