[Elecraft] XP

There will plenty of problems when you want to use "ANY" new programs which
BTW have advanced past the stuff that was made for XP by a long shot. You
will only be using very old programs as everything has moved or moving
quickly to 64 bit and at least quad core processors to power them.

I still have 2 old XP service pack # machines running one an email server
and the other for my weather station. The other 6 are all Win7 machines
desktops and 2 laptops except for my iPad's and iPhones they run other OS's.

There are new logging programs that can do so many things now that take
advantage of more processing power.

Depends on what your needs are and the environment. We are still using
laptops running 2000 pro for logging at field day. Work great.

One problem with perpetual licenses is that they create no ongoing cash
flow. To get more money you need people to buy new product. Thus it makes
business sense to obsolete the old stuff as soon as you can without angering
the customer base. Some of us drive 20 year old cars around town. As long
as they do what is needed there is no need to buy new no matter how much the
dealers try to convince us that our image is damaged by the rust spots and
holes.
