[Elecraft] [K3] need help with hiss on ssb receive

So, I assume you guys are talking about "hiss" that is even apparent on a quiet band (such as 10-meters when it is dead).  

If the hiss only occurs on a band with regular atmospheric noise how do you know to distinguish between the two or maybe even what components of one over the other.
