It does not matter if one transmits "on the wrong sideband" - even if
one is in USB the CW is close enough that the other station will hear
you.

It works just fine from the key input - I use it all the time. One
needs to enable VOX (semi break-in) in CW before enabling CW in SSB
and selecting SSB.

Absolutely *not*! Although there are those who use low power for
various data modes - just as there are those who use QRP for non-data
modes - there is no requirement to do so. Having 200W for some MFSK
and PSK modes or 500 W for AFSK and JT modes is quite useful when
conditions are marginal.
