Past Elecraft products have always used a DB9 and the user supplied the USB/serial converter. Is this a departure from that practice?

The USB/Serial interface is built into the cable. As it says, there's
a USB plug on one end, and a 3.5mm TRS on the other. The product is
called KXUSB, and one is also supplied with the KX3. If you want to
use an existing RS232 port, you could order, or build, a KXSER
instead. There's an option on the order page to substitute the KXSER,
if you want.
