a couple of more thoughts I missed about running the K3 with a SignaLink USB
on JT65

I forgot to cover the sliders underneath 'Audio Input Levels' bars" in the
upper left of the JT65-hf screen 
they are also useful for acquire the '0' setting desired when there are no
signals present (in the 48-60 sec time period)

I try to leave those slider(s) set to center
then set all the other receive stuff up like I said in the previous email
(partly quoted below)
then I can use those sliders if there is some immediate need to
either raise or lower the volume lever to keep it in the black
if you go below or above the 'desired' readings *during decoding*
those numbers will turn red to warn you

actually since you're really operating in single channel mode, only the top
one matters

it's kinda backwards to me
but in the Win 7 Recording Devices the Microphone USB CODEC Properties
is actually the one that effects your receive level (37)

and in the Win 7 Speakers USB Audio CODEC is the one that effects the TX
level
I use that is set to (50)


I also forgot to mention
if you are all set up and working fine in receive
and someone comes on that is so loud (strong)
that they put you in the red and mess up any and all decodes for that 48sec
period

then you can HOLD in the notch to get the K3's adjustable notch
and while watching the waterfall in JT65-hf
move the notch to where it is masking most of the loud signal

it won't cover the whole signal
but if you set it to mask the left hand sync line in the water fall
it will cover most of the offending signal
I'm sure you can also move and narrow the bandwidth, to just allow the
signal you are wanting
but that takes more time and you only have a few seconds to do something

I was trying to copy my signal report from S. Africa when this happened to
me
and I needed a quick fix and the K3's adjustable notch was just the trick
