It sounds like the audio is not getting into your K3. Try 
checking the settings of:

   MAIN MENU:
      MIC SEL
      MIC+LIN

   CONFIG MENU:
      TX GATE

   MIC gain knob

   I think DATA MD set to DATA A will work better than SSB
