Thanks for the 'heads up'.  As I understand your explanation, it won't do us much good in Windows 7 if we change modes in the same application.

  Quickmix is only appropriate for Windows XP. Vista/Windows 7 do not
  allow any application to control the sound card mixer levels directly.
  However, Vista/Windows 7 maintains a separate level for *each*
  application and reloads that application's selected level in the
  Windows Mixer.
