[Elecraft] KX3 oddity when changing bands

Many times (usually) when I change bands, the audio output stops, and 
the S-meter goes to about S 5 to S 7.
If I then key the mike it usually comes back, and the S-meter reads more 
normally (some fluctuation with signal strength).

Any ideas on what is going on?
