Thanks, everyone, for the advice.

I think I will start with the 6m preamp and the sub-receiver with only 
the stock
2.7 kHz filter and see where things go from there.  That's the beauty of 
the Elecraft
line - expandability in hardware and firmware after the initial purchase.
